Delta expands its fuel-efficient A220-300 fleet to 131 aircraft

Investing in a fuel-efficient fleet is a direct way to reach the goal of decarbonizing aviation. SkyTeam partner Delta Air Lines is doing just that by exercising options for another 12 Airbus A220-300s, growing its fleet of A220s to 131 aircraft.

Delta exercises options for 12 Airbus A220-300s, to expand its fuel-efficient and streamlined fleet. The 12 aircraft that complete Delta’s A220s fleet to 131 are scheduled for delivery in 2027 and 2028.

The A220-300 is powered by Pratt & Whitney latest-generation geared turbofan GTF engines. The GTF engine allows the fan and turbine to spin at optimal speeds for fuel efficiency, delivering a steep change in fuel efficiency. Delta’s expanding A220 fleet complements Delta’s fuel-efficient A321neo fleet.

Delta took delivery of its first Airbus A220 in October 2018 and was the first U.S. carrier to operate the aircraft type.
